Services
Plastic Recycling
How a plastic bottle is collected, sorted and reformed so it can be used again.
The service
A closed loop for bottles and packaging.
Empty bottles and other plastic are collected and taken into a recycling stream. Material that is already separated can go straight to a plant.
What comes out is flake or pellet that can be melted again and shaped into new products, including new plastic bottles and packaging.

What we handle
Plastic that can return as a product

Bottles
Collected, checked, and sent on for sorting by polymer and colour.

Rigid plastic
Tubs, trays and other rigid packaging that can be washed and reformed.

Packaging
Plastic packaging is kept apart from fibre so both streams stay recyclable.
The journey
From a used bottle to flake
Each stage removes what does not belong and prepares the plastic for another life.
Step 01
Collection
Empty bottles are collected and taken to a facility. Bottles already separated from other recycling can go straight to a plant.
Step 02
Separating
Anything that cannot be recycled is removed. A perforated drum lets bottles and cans through, and magnets pull out steel and aluminium.
Step 03
Sorting
Infrared sensors read each plastic and jets of air separate bottles by type and colour.
Step 04
Shredding and melting
Bottles are shredded, washed to remove labels and residue, dried, and melted.
Step 05
Flaking
The melt cools into flakes or pellets that can be shaped into new products.
Common questions
FAQ
Questions about how plastic is collected, sorted and made usable again.
What happens to a plastic bottle?
It is collected, separated from anything that cannot be recycled, sorted by type and colour, shredded, washed, melted, and reformed into flakes or pellets.
Do bottles need to be separated before collection?
Bottles already separated from other recycling can go straight to a plant. Mixed loads are sorted at the facility.
How are different plastics told apart?
Infrared sensors read the light reflected from each plastic. Jets of air then separate the types.
What can the recycled plastic be used for?
Flakes and pellets can be melted again and shaped into new products, including new bottles and packaging.
